Supanova - a ballad of hyperlinks

Hoo boyie, have I got a Dear Diary for you. Well – I don’t think it’s the most exciting thing ever but man, I have not been buzzed about a con as much as I had been for Supanova .  Really, this is extraordinary, considering my increasing apathy with the public gatherings of geeky/nerdy masses. But yeah – Supanova, best nerd excursion eEeeeEvvVVVeerrrrR! (so far, but most likely at least, for the year, well, to date…at least). This was Supanova’s 10 th year, and frankly, be it because of the shitty weather and everyone wanting to stay out of the rain or an honest to god successful marketing campaign – we had record breaking crowds.  And when I mean record breaking, I mean olfactory-sense and common-sense breaking crowds.  I could have fainted several times from oxygen deprivation and mustard gassing with nerd sweat.  It doesn’t help that I’m short.  I kept gripping P’s backpack as we negotiated the crowds, terrified that I’d be left to fend for m...

Hark! A light doth shine from...er.... yonder?

Shhh…. do you hear that? Seriously, listen closely… You know what that sound is? That is the sound of me not having any more post-graduate assignments for this year.  I am now officially diploma-fied for the year and frankly, my masters can effing wait because I am freeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeee eeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! I may have done this too... with or without a Varren... Yeah – that’s right bitch.  I don’t care about the use of home-made incendiary devices, or the destabilising effects of drug trafficking on a state’s security regime.  Please don’t ask me about the involvement of non-state actors in sponsoring an insurgency and please please please do not mention the word ‘paramilitary’ at me for the rest of this whole year. Considering I finish off my masters next year, I deserve to have the rest of this year wading blissfully in video games, art and nothing more brain-straining than deciding what Iron Fist Shoes to buy to add to my ...

This was meant to be impressive

Let us pretend, just for time being that this is technically not a blog entry. It's an... uh... interlude. I have at least three proper entries drafted up that for some reason I haven't pressed 'publish' on. One being a review of Epic makeupperers for the pretty and geeky inclined and second, a review of SWTOR, which is a dead and beaten horse but damnit, I want my turn. But as you can see, SWTOR happened - which wasn't as fun as I thought it would be. (more on that later) Also - my nephew happened... Why yes, that is my baby nephew and our dog being brain meltingly adorable together, I thank you for having fits of squee alongside me. Also - a wedding happened... Also - real life. Oh and studying and full time work... . Yes, my job and studies involve studying the diplomatic ramifications of cat munching and the economic ramifications of Dubya having eaten all of them Also - please don't kill me - Maple Story. I don't know how it happened, I woke up one m...

That's not my M55 Carbine Rifle - I'm just happy to see you

Hark - an event review... sort of... Dear Diary, I was intending on drowning my sorrows in a pub with like minded sorrowful people, and talk about, er, our sorrows, instead I was somehow pulled into my local GAMEAus shop for the Mass Effect3 preview night. There was pizza involved... that's all I can say It was a pretty interesting event, I was more than impressed by the fact that proper BioWare peeps had been flown in to attend. Robyn Theberge, project manager at Bioware Edmonton came to grace us with her beautiful accent and kickass N7 t-shirt wearing self. Jetlagged Kickassery... Well, actually, that is a lie. According to my Epically epic buddy Rob Jedi ( who contributes on TechRomp and reviews all the events here ), who attended almost all, if not all, Mass Effect 3 product launches in Sydney, Robyn has actually done the rounds at all these events. Predictably, flying in from fair Canadia and into the distant and sweaty bosom of time warped Australia, you’d be a little tired...

If I said I was drunk on WowWow Sauce...

Happy New Year! – erm… even if its almost March… It has been such a chaotic last few months for me. Study has completely dominated my life with weekly assignment submissions. This has taxed my ability to write coherent sentences without putting the word; ‘incongruent’, ‘intelligence estimate’ and ‘development of civil society’ somewhere in there. full time work has distracted me with Historic LOLs. (I’m so lame) I have also lost my sense of humor and my hand-eye coordination has deteriorated. I blame my studies – but really, I blame this guy: I am so derpy but so badass and sexy… how did this happen? and this: > Lets just say the force isn’t entirely with this… but its trying. Ok, so I cant exactly say that full time work and post-grad studies of the very intellectual kind have been to blame for my lack of blogging commitment, but I have written the words ‘corporate liability’ quite a lot these past few weeks and, to be honest – that’s a really heavy word to type and think of… Als...
